Indoor swimming pools come into their own as the weather turns. 

Certainly at this time of the season the outdoor swimming pools would now have become hibernated from the harsh winter months, however the Indoor Swimming pool owner reaches for the pool hall with glee! Outdoor swimming pool mayhem! With extreme weather warnings! 

Outdoor swimming pools of all descriptions are set to take a bashing, report weather men across the UK, reports of snow in the hills could be a sign of a repeat winter following last season reports from our service swimming pool engineers are varied ranging from reports of branches and high leaf content both on top of outdoor swimming pool cover and underneath winter debris covers. 

Our advice for outdoor swimming pool owners is to stay vigilant following a night of gusts heavy rain and snow! Checks could include visual inspection to debris on covers, under cover debris build up, and clearing leafs from swimming pool surrounds

 Adlington is one of England’s last few stars left in this show and while Olympic and World athletic champions were pulling out. This is Adlington’s first Commonwealth Games so she is here with an inexperienced eye, reports one national press.

Adlington will swim in the heats of the 200metres this morning, with the final tonight. This is her weakest event and she has three quick Australians to get past for a medal.

It is unlikely to be gold, but a silver or bronze are very likely and it would spring England’s attack on the medals and bring a feel-good factor to a Games where the smile on the faces of the people is genuine but masks many problems.

“I never thought I was going to pull out. At the trials, we all said we were going to do it. We all expected the worst. When we got here we were all pleasantly surprised. It’s not bad at all. There are a few tiles that are not done but that is not a problem,” Adlington said.

Adlington has a busy workload with the 200m freestyle, 400m, 800m and 4×200m relay. It is the busiest championship she has ever had. If she is successful, she might repeat the programme at the London Olympics.

Adlington’s Olympic success distances – the 800m, where she is still the world record holder, and the 400m – will remain her top events where she is bookies favourite for both.

Philippe Croizon, a 42-year-old who lost all of his limbs in a freak accident, achieved the incredible feat using specially designed prosthetic flippers.

The Frenchman set off from Folkestone, Kent, at 8am on Saturday morning and reached Wissant, near Calais, just before 9.30pm.

‘I did it! It’s mad!’ were Philippe’s first words on arrival, saying he wanted to become ‘a representative of someone overcoming his restrictions.

‘I’ve done this for myself, for my family, and for all those who have suffered tragedy and lost their taste for life,’ added the father-of-two.

He swam at a constant 2mph – only slightly slower than an able bodies swimmer -  in relatively good weather, and was accompanied by dolphins for part of the crossing.

Philippe had been expected to take some 24 hours to finish the 21 mile swim, but in fact did it in just over 13 hours.

On arrival he was telephoned by Nadine Morano, France’s families minister, who praised his ‘exceptional athletic performance’.

In all 5 of the Deep End Pools team attended the seminar to learn of the latest news and most modern advancements in the swimming pool industry. Certikin International of Witney, Oxfordshire greeted all of their guests with tea and coffee before giving us all a full day of lectures, talks and advice.

Many new products were unveiled all with supporting talks from the specialist representative from Certikin to explain and promote the new technologies and ideas.

Deep End Pools were included in the seminar with reference to the new Supa Liner from Certikin North, Leeds. We were the first company in the country to install this much superior liner and photos of the installation were used in the seminar.

It was also a great opportunity for people in the trade to meet and discuss the past years events and installations as it is very rare to see so many people from the same industry as ourselves in one place.

In all it was a very positive and productive day with plenty of new things learnt and many others to consider to develop over the next year of trading.

This Bill was raised in the recent Queen’s Speech debates in both the House of Commons and House of Lords and is now due to go for a Second Reading in the House of Commons on 15 December.  

The Water Management part of this Bill is important to our industry because there are plans to extend the types of uses of water that can be restricted when there are water shortages and these include:

·         Filling domestic swimming pools and paddling pools, whether by hosepipe or by permanent plumbing

·         Filling domestic hot tubs and similar bathing facilities, whether by hosepipe or by permanent plumbing

 These types of water uses may be restricted under various options being proposed by the Government and their preferred option appears to be to enable the Secretary of State to extend, by Order, the range of non essential uses of water, water companies could impose under their own powers. 

 This may mean that the government may give water companies the power to enforce what you can and can’t use your water for in times of short supply.

Deep End Pools Beaconsfield and Taplow

Simon completed his work experience for Deep End Pools in 2008, and naturally Simon wished to leave school and further his working career in the Swimming pool trade.

Simon has been servicing swimming pools, fitting liners, maintaining plant and machinery studying the ISPE home study course and attending supplier seminars to boost his learning and knowledge within the trade, fast tracking this keen school leaver to Engineer Status for the Deep End Pools 2010 swimming pool season.

Simon also enjoys water sports out of work, armed with his Yamaha super jet freestyle jet ski, he regularly attends west Thorpe water sports lake in Marlow (his second home) training ground for Ant Burgess world champion and Loki customs jet ski tuner.

Simon, has excellent electro mechanical skills having worked at a local garage in his home town of Tavistock Devon, with various ownerships of motocross bikes and trails bike his nimble spanners could be fixing your swimming pool pump sometime soon!
